This is the initial training course for future procedure designers. The course is 6 weeks long and split in two parts of 3 weeks with a break in between. Part 1 covers all procedure design basics, conventional procedure criteria and holding. Part 2 addresses the more complex material for ILS/CRM, RNAV NPA procedure design. The break between the two parts allows to consolidate the knowledge acquired in part 1 and will avoid the "sensory overload" symptom that normally starts to show after about 2-3 weeks of intense learning. Therefore the students will have a better learning performance when working with the more complex criteria in part 2. Please note that APV Baro-VNAV, APV SBAS and RNP AR design is not part of the basic training. It is advanced material and covered in the continuous training courses listed further below.
This basic course also includes extensive e-learning prior to both part 1 and part 2.This allows to focus in the classroom on real procedure design issues, because the student learns some basic concepts on his own and at his personal pace.
Conditions for admission:
As per ICAO doc. 9906, vol II. The student must prove an aviation background such as air traffic controller, commercial pilot with instrument rating, navigator, flight dispatcher or systems engineer. He must master geometry and mathematics to a level of a bachelor's degree. Please ask Beat Zimmermann for detailed pre-requisites for this course or download the document above.

This is the first PANS-OPS course worldwide that is delivered online. All theory lectures can be learnt at the student's own pace. The advantage of this course is that it is much more diverse than a classroom course, because it's not limited in time. The theory is then followed by practical sessions of 2 times one week to activate and consolidate the practical skills of procedure design. Furthermore, students can use it as refresher training at their own discretion, wherever, whenever.
Conditions for admission:
The student must prove an aviation background such as air traffic controller, commercial pilot with instrument rating, navigator, flight dispatcher or systems engineer. He must master geometry and mathematics to a level of a bachelor's degree. Please ask Beat Zimmermann for detailed pre-requisites for this course.

1650 CHF (Swiss Francs) per student, includes tuition fee and course materials

This course was designed to meet the need for in depth review of the complex criteria in PANS-OPS for ILS. It may be some years ago since you attended a basic PANS-OPS course and in the meantime you may not have had a chance to design an ILS approach.
In order to give the student a profound understanding of the criteria provided, this course focuses exclusively on the correct application of the ICAO Annex 14 Basic ILS Surfaces, the PANS-OPS Obstacle Assessment Surfaces (OAS) with any necessary constant adjustments (for example for RDH lower than 15m or for steep glide path angle approaches) as well as the correct interpretation of a CRM report.
Special emphasis will also be put on the understanding how to extend the precision W and X surfaces towards the FAP.
Conditions for admission:
The student must demonstrate fundamental ICAO PANS-OPS knowledge and operational experience.

This course was designed to meet the need for in depth review of the complex criteria in PANS-OPS for RNAV procedures. It may be some years ago since you attended a basic PANS-OPS course and in the meantime you may not have had a chance to design any RNAV procedure. Or maybe your basic course took place before RNAV criteria were included in PANS-OPS.
In order to give the student a profound understanding of the criteria provided, this course focuses exclusively on all the RNAV chapters in PANS-OPS as well as the implementation strategies by the states.

This course was designed as an addon course to the basic PANS-OPS course. APV Baro-VNAV, APV SBAS, RNP AR and Helicopter PinS are advanced criteria and Flight Procedure Designers should have consolidated their basics before moving to these more complex tasks. The theory will cover the PBN navigation specifications derived from the ICAO PBN Manual (doc. 9613) and will cover the full RNP AR manual (doc. 9905). APV Baro-VNAV and APV SBAS will also be mastered competencies at the end of this course. In the second half of the course, a practical project will be completed. Students can choose what type of procedure they would like to practice in a real world scenario
Conditions for admission:
The student must demonstrate fundamental ICAO PANS-OPS knowledge and operational experience.
